Leslie C. Peltier was born in Delphos, Ohio, on January 2, 1900. For most of the years before his death there in 1980, he was looking at the heavens and reporting the habits of variable stars. As far back as 1934, Dr. Harlow Shapley referred to him as "the world's greatest nonprofessional astronomer." Mr. Peltier discovered a dozen comets in his lifetime. In August, 1965, Ford Observatory was dedicated atop Mt. Peltier in the San Gabriel Mountains of Southern California....
